Expanding the Pipeline: The Status of Persons with Disabilities in the Computer Science Pipeline

For the past fifteen years, I have led the NSF-funded broadening participation alliance AccessComputing that has the goal of increasing the participation and success of people with disabilities in computing fields. This has given me and my team the ability to help create positive change and to observe what others have done to do the same.  No doubt, there are still significant barriers for some students with disabilities to enter our field, and as technology changes new barriers often arise.

AccessComputing Webinars for your Organization

AccessComputing can lead online presentations and discussions for your department, institution, organization, or another group of colleagues. Time could be set aside during the session to discuss specific strategies that your department or organization could utilize to move towards becoming more welcoming and accessible to students with disabilities or how you could include accessibility topics in your instruction or research.

CRA’s CV Database Initiative Turns Two

Recruiting continues to be one of the top computing research community challenges. Thus, CRA plans to strengthen the CV Database initiative and take additional actions in 2020-21.

The CV Database is now open for applications for the 2020-21 recruiting season. It can be accessed through https://turing.cra.org/cv-database/. Candidates will be able to upload their resumes, research and teaching statements, job objectives and other preferences, and a link to a short presentation video. Recruiters will be able to search this information and are encouraged to contact candidates.

Please encourage all of your finishing PhD students looking for academic or industrial/government laboratory research positions to post and complete their applications soon, before the computing research recruiting season begins.

In late-October 2020, recruiter access to the CV Database will be made available to all CRA academic members. Additionally, industrial and government laboratory CRA member institutions that sponsor Grad Cohort 2021 at the silver level and above will receive access.

We hope that your PhD students and your Faculty Recruiting Committee find this service valuable. For further information visit: https://turing.cra.org/cv-database/#Info.
